Ironing board Cover5
This cover is excellent, but note that it best fits the ironing board that it was made for and that board is much wider than a regular priced ironing board. Also, if you're buying one to go with the Roweta Ironing Bord, the board purchased new, comes with the same cover already installed.

Rowenta - The Best!5
Rowenta products seem to be the best one can get in laundry care. We own a Professional iron and board; there is no better board -- stable and the cover (which is what is being reviewed) is the best. Well made and a perfect fit, what more can one ask for, except perhaps for a lower price?

My wife is delighted!5
This is a quality product and well worth the price. It fits perfectly (ignore the dimensions given under Product Details.) It DOES fit the Rowenta IB-6200 Ironing Board!

The cover attaches easily and provides a smooth ironing surface. This is a class product.

Reliability?3
This iron is great... when it works. I loved mine but it broke within two weeks. It stopped heating up at all. I was extremely disappointed since I thought I was buying a high-quality iron. Rowenta did replace the iron at no cost; however, it took three weeks which is a long time to be without an iron. I really hope my new one keeps working because it is a great iron that heats up fast and makes ALOT of steam.

A Great Steam Generator and Iron !!5
I had read all about the problems of the Rowenta 5030 series Steam Generator. it seems that the Rowenta Engineers read the complaints, too. The 8030 Unit is their answer. A superb Generator where the water level is visible, easy to fill and re-fill, much lighter in weight than my old Rowenta Professional Iron and, boy, does it pour out the steam! It sits easily on my older ironing board, has a 12 foot electrical cord and a 6 foot elect./steam line attaching the iron to the generator. It has a very short wait time to began ironing/steaming and the clothing comes out pressed as if done at a local dry cleaning place. I love the unit and highly recommend it to anyone who hates to iron. This unit will put a smile on your face.

Works well but not worth the $?3
I ordered the expert version, since there were so many issues with the 5030. It works well - heats up really quickly, you can see water level and it has a warning light on water level anyway. You can also refill without having to wait for the iron to cool. The long cords are handy. This was my first experience with a steam generator iron and honestly, while it works fine, it is/was a lot of money and doesn't seem all that much of an improvement over a conventional steam iron. The vertical steaming doesn't work too well. After holding the trigger for a few seconds, the amount of steam drops off significantly - not really enough for efficient vertical steaming.

Feel like a pro at home5
First off, I wouldn't even consider using this iron with one of the flimsy supermarket ironing boards....something like the Rowenta IB6300 is much more in order, (it also has a shelf to place the reservoir, very handy).

Now on to the actual review. We've only had this iron for a couple of weeks, if I experience any nasty longevity issues, I'll be sure to address them with updates to this review.

Wow, this iron/steam generator is making ironing less of a chore. We'd previously owned the Rowenta Perfect and Advancer irons, both of which my wife sent on one way trips to a hardwood floor, (while the floor survived with large gouges, the irons, unfortunately, did not). After being spoiled with the Rowenta brand, and needing a replacement, we opted for the DG8030.

This thing is pricey! If I didn't require a large amount of clothes ironed, I'd be more tempted to just take everything to the cleaners. We bit the bullet and haven't looked back since. Ironing creases used to take time and a determined effort. Now it's just a quick pull on the steam button, and you're in business. Need to iron out or adjust a crease? Too easy! I can't vouch for using this vertical with drapes/blinds, but for uniforms and dress clothes, I haven't seen better. Combined with a quality ironing board, (as mentioned above), I've cut down my ironing time by more than half.

I especially liked the large reservoir and the fact that you can refill it without waiting for the iron to cool down. If you iron often and can manage the price tag, this is it.

Looking for a professional iron, this is the one5
I am a professional seamstress, handweaver and I iron fabric off and on all day, every day, five days a week.
I have bought many irons in my 30 years in business. And have paid large sums of money for some of them.
This iron is the best all around iron on the market today. I don't say that lightly either. It does pull more power with it's heavy duty electric cord, I expect my electric bill will go up slightly now that I use this exclusively on my fabrics..... But the finished product is so much nicer and I get the professional finish I want to have on my handwovens. The added cost is worth the finished product.

Best one yet...5
I quilt and sew daily and use this iron constantly. It is remarkable. Steam when and where I want it and in the quantity I need. I've had several expensive irons, but none came close to this one. And - no annoying "auto shut-off" when I don't want/expect it. The large size water tank is a benefit too.

Makes Ironing a Breeze5
I just got this iron yesterday at Linens & Things using their standard 20% coupon you find all the time in the newspaper. I tried it out on a cotton shirt and got the job down about five times faster than usual, less work, and no wrinkles. The shirt looked like I got it back from the cleaners. I also have an Elna ironpress, which also saves time, but I think I will prefer using the Rowenta steam iron since it steams the material while you iron it, and it can get into more nooks and crannies. Note to Rowenta Engineers -- it would be nice if the water tank had a level indicator to let you know how much water is in it. This would help when you fill it so as to prevent overfilling. Another option would be a removable water tank you could take over to the sink to fill. Also, if this is a typical high quality Rowenta product, why only a one-year warranty? Why not five or ten years?

An Absolute Must5
If you enjoy hotel-quality,crisp linen pillow cases and duvet covers, then this iron is an absolute must. I was able to iron a king size cotton duvet cover in about 5 minutes. This task used to take at least 30 minutes with my Rowenta Professional Iron. Washable silk blouses were steamed perfectly and washable linen shirts and pants looked like new. I highly recommend this iron. I agree with other reviewers who say that a water table would be nice, this way you can refill before heating up the water.

Amazon.com Product Description
For steam treatment on silk scarves, linen tablecloths, wool slacks, and more, Rowenta presents their Effective Steam Iron. The 1600-watt iron adapts for vertical use on curtains and long, hanging garments. The iron's translucent water reserve holds 8-1/2 ounces of water for conversion into steam bursts, mists and other steam patterns.

The steam iron features a polished stainless-steel soleplate that provides even heat to fabrics. Channeled steam holes along the soleplate ensure smooth movement. Steam holes in the soleplate's profile tip assist in ironing around buttons and in pleats. A soft covered handle resists slipping with ergonomic comfort. A special indicator monitors the tap water levels in the iron's anti-drip tank. After use, the iron cleans itself by flushing out any mineral or impure deposits collected through the ironing process, preventing calc build-up. For home safety, Rowenta designed the steam iron with three different automatic shutoff functions. The steam iron shuts down after 30 seconds resting horizontally, or if knocked over. If left idle sitting safely on its heel rest, the iron arrests power after 8 minutes to prevent overheating and wasted electricity. As with any electrical appliance, read the enclosed warnings and safety guidelines prior to use. The Germany-made iron benefits from a one-year limited warranty. The iron measures 11.9 by 6.6 by 5.6 inches and 55 ounces upon shipping.

Customer Reviews

A wonderful product...5
I was a little nervous about the posts that gigged this particular Rowenta iron.. my lightweight Black & Decker has been with me awhile, and although it does a "decent" job of ironing it was a hassle in terms of the number of steam vents and the amount of time I had to spend on items to get them really looking decent. Because of the few lukewarm reviews on the $49 Rowena DX1700 iron, I decided to purchase it from my local Target (same price) because if it didn't out-perform my current iron, I was definitely planning to return it. Amazon is great in that respect.. being able to print a label, etc., but it meant a trip 4 cold blocks to the Post Office, and waiting for a credit to my account, etc. Target, on the other hand, is a short bus ride away and could instantly reverse the purchase.

I am really surprised! Honestly, this iron is phenomenal.. I don't do this kind of stuff for a living, so those of you who quilt/sew/press on a regular basis may have different standards; but because this so effortlessly took out wrinkles without any "pushing", I decided to do my whole wardrobe, which includes, by the way, a number of lightweight, 100% linen jackets. I couldn't believe my eyes.. there was a post about having to refill the water chamber more than once, but just isn't an issue for me as long as the job gets done fast and well.

If some of the stuff you love to wear is sitting in your sack of un-ironed favorites, and you don't wear it often because you can only wear it once before it needs another "iron-job", for pity's sake, order this guy. In a very small way, it will CHANGE one aspect of your life. I really can't say that much about most purchases!

As good as it gets5
This rowenta is the best. I have had a Rowenta for years and it finally died on me.(after 20 years) Needless to say this new one outshines the old one. Lighter and irons like a dream.

FABULOUS5
I just got though ironing 5 pairs of linen slacks. I was going to bring them to the dry cleaners to press becuase I couldn't get the wrinkles out to wear to work. I dreaded spending the money on that. I figured I would give the iron a shot. In one second I flet the difference, I had a beautiful professional looking crease, with one swipe on linen and with steam. I gave the pockets and xtra burst of steam, and I was done, like a handkerchief, I didn't want to stop, and I hate to iron. You can not go wrong with this item.

Rowenta DX-8800 1750-Watt Professional Iron

Product Description

The Rowenta DX-8800 Professional iron provides a new level in professional ironing. The DX-8800 offers an extra long burst of professional steam, ideal for removing tough wrinkles and creases. The full comfort handle, anti-slip rear and ergonomic buttons ensure a safe comfortable iron. German designed, quality and construction it has an extra large transparent water tank, 12.7 oz, which allows fewer refills and a clear view of your water level.

Amazon.com Review
Serious quilters and sewing professionals know the benefits of having a high-quality iron, especially one with an extra-large water tank that needs refilling less often. Made in Germany with comfort and technology hand in hand, the Rowenta features a soft-grip handle, ideal for this large, heavier-weight iron; a transparent 12.7-ounce water tank with a sliding cover over the fill hole and anti-drip system; and a burst of steam that lasts longer and is forcibly shot into stubborn fabric wrinkles. The iron’s soleplate is polished stainless steel that will never chip or peel. Other functions include spray, variable steam, and steam-free ironing, as well as vertical ironing for drapes.

Safety is a high priority for Rowenta. This iron shuts off automatically under three different circumstances: after eight minutes of standing vertically without use, and after 30 seconds if left flat on the soleplate or if it has toppled over on its side. A lift or gentle shake reactivates the iron and a light comes on indicating the iron is in use. The iron also features a flexible cord mount for easy maneuverability and an anti-slip frame for stability. Rowenta covers the iron with a one-year warranty. --Ann Bieri

I love my new Rowenta iron! 5

This is my third Rowenta iron and each one is more improved than the last. What I love about the DX-8800 is the larger water tank and the weight of the iron. I use steam a lot and hardly have to fill up the tank. The heaviness of it makes ironing easier. I also like that it has a strong burst of steam and the vertical steam option. The cost of it is higher than most, but I feel is well worth it. I hope to use it for many years to come. I would strongly recommend this iron to anyone.

Terrific Iron5
This is the best iron I have ever used. It literally irons in half the time compared to my old Black and Decker. I am a seamster and have seen an improvement in my work since I began setting stitches and pressing seams with the Advancer Iron. The burst of steam feature knocks out tough wrinkles and is really helpful with stubborn seams. It is not heavy, but it is heavier than my previous irons, so it really makes pressing fabric easy. The narrow tip is a great feature! It fits like a dream in trouble places. I used it while constructing a coat and the narrow tip allowed access to the most difficult areas.

The one down side is the automatic shut off feature. It will shut off in 8 minutes if left vertically, in 30 seconds if left on its soleplate. I would prefer if this feature were optional.

The Advancer is formulated to work with tap water, not distilled. But for those of us with an excess of organic matter in our tap water, the tap water may be diluted with 50% bottled water (per the instructions) for excellent results.

Rowenta DZ 90805
This iron is a technological marvel. I have just had it for a few days and I have ironed some very difficult, over 100 year, heirloom open-embroidered linen. It was a breeze and the results were truly professional. The controlls are easy to use, the steam settings excellent. It just glides over those diffucult spots. It may be a little pricey, but it is worth every penny.

This is an ideal tool for anyone who sews on home fabrics. The upright steam feature is a plus. I was concerned about the weight, but the iron glides so effortlesly that you do not notice the weight.

A steam machine5
I like to use a lot of steam when I iron, and the Focus comes up to temperature fast and makes great evenly distributed steam. The automatic steam function works pretty well and is easy to use, but I tend to ad a bit more as much because it makes ironing more fun as any useful reason.
This iron did a spectacular job on my more delicate silk shirts as well as making quick work of rumpled kahkis.
The heat seems more evenly distributed than the Black and Decker i was using, and everything about the steam is superior.
The narrow tip makes the area around buttons noticably easier.
The ONLY issues I have with the Focus is that it doesn't have an on/off button (it does have a great three way auto off feature which I tested to verify for safetys sake). It sometimes draws an arc when plugging and unplugging it which can be hard on outlets after extended use.
It also will drip a little durring longer sessions of use.
Overall very highly recomended.

My first ever review of an appliance...5
I've never been prompted to write a review of any product that I've purchased over the years, but the Rowenta Focus iron has changed all that. After 50-plus years of ironing, I think I've tried every iron on the market. And I've been dissatisfied with them all. My latest, a Black and Decker, remained on the same setting (the hottest), because it was NEVER hot enough. I wear a lot of cotton and linen, which, of course, means a lot of wrinkles. I've misted and starched (when appropriate) ahead of time, all to no avail. I was just about ready to go back to an all polyester wardrobe when I asked a tailor in my hometown to recommend a good iron. Without hesitation, she said, "Rowenta". So I read all the reviews I could find, and decided to take the plunge.

WOW!!! First of all, with my old Black and Decker, I'd have to iron a sleeve or panel of fabric in three or four passes. But with the Rowenta, it only took one pass to remove the wrinkles, even on linen. I quickly realized that my ironing time would be cut in half! And the narrow tip for getting inbetween buttons is genius-inspired. And the STEAM!!! For those who've said it consumes a lot of water, well---duh?? It TAKES a lot of water to produce that much steam.

If you've had it, as I did, with poorly fuctioning equipment, treat yourself to this product. You may just find yourself having a love affair with an appliance. What a joy!!

Good ironing with a few issues4
In the last 13 years I have bought 2 irons - a low-end Proctor Silex and a middle-of-the-road Panasonic (NI-551R) comparable to the Panasonic NI-A56NR Steam/Dry Iron w/Non-stick Soleplate w/Vertical Steam. For approx. 9 years I have ironed with it every single week day and 6 weeks ago it decided it had just too much and quit.

Now this was an awesome opportunity for me....being a starving student (Yes Dude! Students need to iron clothes too :o) ), I had bought the cheapest iron I could afford - but now I could finally choose what I wanted!

My major requirements were that my iron:
* Get sufficiently hot
* Have plenty of steam - as I only wear 100% cotton shirts and slacks
* Have sufficient steam-on-demand - steam jet should not cool down the iron too quickly
* Should glide well, and,
* Have no leaks.

Doing my research, I found that Rowenta irons were on top, and people loved the Focus as much as the Rowenta DZ9080 Advancer Iron.

At the lower price-point I bought the Focus and the Rowenta DX-8800 1750-Watt Professional Iron, thinking one of these were it.

I was leaning towards the Focus and so opened that first. It is a great iron, plenty of powerful steam - I only needed the jet for stubborn wrinkles. The heat-up time was good and the ironing was smooth. But there were also some cons.

The iron is significantly larger and heavier than anything I have used. There is a fatigue factor to using this iron for ironing a weeks worth of clothes. I'm sure one can get used to it, but I didn't - I do workout but not in the same motion as ironing!
Second the iron will not fit in my ironing board stand. My ironing board is slightly smaller than the large pro-boards you see around. This is inconvenient as I am a little concerned walking away from a hot, heavy vertical iron. I have tried the larger boards and I prefer the size of my board.
The biggest inconvenience, and this may be for ALL stainless steel plate irons is that a residue builds up on the surface (I do not use any starch on my clothes!) and adds drag to the ironing. About 2 weeks into the ironing, the iron would not glide. I took a large, multi-folded cloth napkin and cleaned out the hot iron. I never encountered this in the past as the Panasonic has a titanium non-stick coating which had super smooth gliding all of those years.
Also for such a large iron, I would have expected better placement of the dial....I did change the setting accidentally.

So the verdict is that I really like this iron for what it can do, but I realized that my old Panasonic was lighter, just as smooth and removed wrinkles nearly as well. I decided that I would try the Panasonic 56NR which has a little more wattage than my old iron.

The DX8800 also raised doubts on the quality and reliability of this iron. It was DOA as far as the steam goes - no steam at all! (Yah! I did fill it with water)

A few other observations:
All irons seem to have sufficient water capacity for 2-3 cotton clothes - whether this comes out as auto-steam or the manual jet steam. And I think this is a good thing if you have to refill often as then you don't have water left over to leak.

And leaking while ironing....people need to ensure that they do not switch on steam options when they are ironing outside the steam zone...I did accidentally move the dial to a lower setting and sure enough, I got a few drops on my clothes. I realized my mistake, dialed up and everything was fine.

Contrary to what the women reading this think, I am a man and I DO read instructions - just never follow them!! ;o) I used distilled water instead of tap water (for 9 years!!) in my old Panasonic as I did not want to deal with cleaning the calc build up and it never leaked - NEVER! What you might not realize is that after cleaning your iron the calc will smear your next few clothes. It's just unnecessary overhead....I'd rather remove the water daily than use non-distilled water.

One last thing....I think most of the high-end irons use stainless steel as it is a good conductor of heat, it heats more effectively, maybe to higher temperatures and retains that heat....but even the top-of-the-line Rowenta Advancer has a Titanium non-stick coating - which leads me to believe that a non-stick coating is more desirable than a stainless steel finish.

I will be reviewing the Panasonic 56NR at a later date.
