I love this Iron

I have only had this iron a few months but I love it! Ironing has become a snap. I was surprised to see so many negative reviews. I have had nothing but great results from this iron!

I'm sold on Rowenta

This is my third Rowenta in 26 years. I keep returning to this brand because of the weight it provides. Previous ones had a tendancy to drip, but it seems they've cleared up that problem. Even though I'm a sewer and quilter, the automatic shutoff doesn't bother me at all. I've found that the iron heats up very quickly. The vertical steaming feature is great, especially with hanging draperies.

Great Iron

This is my 2nd Rowenta and I'm still impressed with this brand. One great thing about this iron is that it's heavy, people don't realize that to iron clothes properly you need a heavy iron.....that way the iron does the work.....not you :-). Great product....I will buy again!!

Hot and Heavy!

Clothes irons can be such a subjective purchase. What works well for one, will damn it for another. Some like heavier irons, some lighter. Some like stainless soleplates, some like other coverings.

I've owned a bunch of irons over the last 40 years, in all the major brands, plus I use 2 Elnapresses part of the time. This is the second Rowenta I've had, having bought an excellent one 20 years ago only to have a family member break it in an accidental fall.

It will be noticeable to someone accustomed to a lightweight iron that this is no lightweight. It certainly doesn't weigh what the old all-metal irons used to in my mother's generation, but it is substantial. It will also be noted that the soleplate is inox stainless steel, and glides over fabrics with a finger's touch. Often, cotton knitted t-shirts will stretch from soleplate friction when ironed; not on this iron. A finger or two's touch is all that's required to move the iron over fabric.

There is a wide range of temperature settings; I can't testify to their accuracy as I mostly use cotton/linen or synthetic. I will say that, in my experience, a stainless steel soleplate appears to get hotter and this iron is certainly hotter than my Sunbeam or B/D. This is an advantage for me with my main ironing being cotton.

It is also convenient that there is a wide range of steam setting. So many irons are basically a little steam or none; this iron really pumps out the steam when desired, but easily tapers that back also. There is a spray setting and it certainly works, but I seldom use it.

For those who want it, please note this iron has a quite thick power cord, thicker than the average steam iron, and it does not retract into the iron. However, it is also a quite long and the thicker-than-normal cord ensures it doesn't get tangled easily. This iron is quite high in wattage, more than the average, and it is cautioned in the owner's manual not to use an extension cord that can't handle the wattage.

Filling the iron is basically like my Sunbeam with a hole on the front of the iron body and a provided cup.

I'd like to note that, as with "Bergeron"'s review, I also use an iron for sewing and quilting. Unlike "Bergeron", I realize it is well documented that auto shutoff on irons has saved lives and property. Yes, it can be irritating. My solution? I purchased a vintage iron NOS on EBay and that's the iron I use for pressing. Not so complicated, is it?

This iron isn't cheap, but its German design and construction should outlast at least a few of its Chinese-built competitors, including my Sunbeam and Black & Decker!

rowenta professional iron

The Rowenta Professional iron was an excellent replacement for an older model. It holds more water, heats up quickly and lives up to the expectations of the Rowenta brand.

Rowenta is Awesome

This iron is light weight and easy to use. I would recommend it to anyone. Well worth the cost.

Excellent IRON!!

Wonderful product but it seemed to take forever for it to arrive. I'm very pleased. THis is the third Rowenta iron I have owned and wouldn't select any other.

I LOVE IT

I love this iron. What a difference it has made. It works great. I can get done twice as fast because when you run it over the clothes, they are ironed. No holding the iron there and waiting. The wrinkles are gone in one swipe. I got mine on ebay for $64. I loved it so much I went out and got a Rowenta ironing board...I love that too.

Rowenta Iron

I'm rewriting this review, 6 months later. The iron still works dry, but it drips as soon as I add water. I would no longer rate this 5 stars. I'm very unhappy considering what I paid for this iron.

Rowenta DX-8800 1750-Watt Professional Iron

Rowenta irons have been my choice of irons for quite some time. The professional is the best iron I have ever used. It emits lots of steam and smooths all of the wrinkles. I love it.

Rowenty Iron

This is our second Rowenta Iron and is certainly a quality product. We are happy with it's performance.

Makes ironing a breeze

This is an excellent iron! The steam is very good, which makes ironing easy and faster. Highly recommended!

Rowenta DX-8800 1750-watt Professional Iron

Iron gives very good service, It was a replacement for one that I had dropped onto a ceramic tile floor, which caused the water chamber of the previous iron to break and allowed it to leak when using the steam or spray feature. I had had it for about fifteen years, so I can vouch for its service and reliability.

great iron

This has to be the best iron for me there could be. I like everything about it. Now my ironing board is not good enough.

Rowenta Iron

Love this iron! This is our second purchase of Rowenta for the past ten years...couldn't be happier. Husband's slacks look beautiful each and every time!

Rowenta - the best

An excellent iron--lives up to its' hype. I have had a Rowneta before and had to replace due to my only negligence. This is the best iron that money can buy.

Tuesday, October 6, 2009

Changed my mind - it broke after 17 months of use

Update in December 2008 - while I cannot change my rating, wanted you to know that our iron broke 18 months after the purchase. While it was a great iron when it worked, the steam feature worsened with use and finally the heat element broke. Not sure if I will buy another one due to the price...by the way, we were careful and used spring water since our well water is not that great. Guess it wasn't work using the expensive water.

We iron our clothes every day before we go to work. I have fought with irons spitting on my clothes for years. This iron is GREAT so far (we've had the iron for about a month). It really irons well - as good as bringing it to the cleaners for pressing. The instructions are good in that we use 'spring' water now to prevent long term spitting up on my white clothes (because we have softened well water). It is the best iron purchase yet! The cord does get kind of in the way, but minor compared to the great job the iron does at ironing. Truly professional. Both of my sisters have the same iron and have had them for almost a year with no problems.

Monday, October 5, 2009

Ironing is no fun, but, if you have to iron.

Excellent iron. A very sturdy, solid iron with steam that could run a locomotive. Very convenient features, a water spout with a sliding cover to prevent leaks.
I purchased this Rowenta to replace another that had a cord problem. In looking at other customers' reviews, Rowenta has had problems with the cord attachment on a number of their models. I contacted the manufacture and was given the name and number of the few factory authorized repair centers. I contacted the repair center and they immediately knew what the issue was. Unfortunately, this repair costs about $55. If getting a brand new improved model costs $90, it makes no sense to repair- it's economically advantageous to replace. I called a non-factory authorized appliance repair business and they specifically stated that they were not authorized ( or equipped to deal with Rowenta irons !)
So, overall, this is a killer iron- the BMW of irons, so to speak. Highly recommended. But, I wish the simple repairs were simpler to deal with.

consistent quality

I purschased the Rowenta DX-8800 1750-watt Professional iron. The weight of the iron combined with the abdundant steam really shorten my ironing time. This is my second Rowenta, and I would not purchase any other brand!

iron

This is the 2nd iron that I have purchased. It is really great. Will purchase one again.

Saturday, October 3, 2009

Rowenta is made in Germany (NOT CHINA!)

Rowenta is made in Germany (NOT CHINA) and to me, that's a selling point in its own. This is our second Rowenta. The DM-88(?) was our first model that was still working but starting to leak after about 4+ years (from too many operator error drops I'm sure). It paid for itself many times over.

This new DX-8800 has been used for about a week now and its obviously another solid Rowenta iron we look forward to using for some time. It makes even shorter work of my self-ironed work dress shirts, pants and on the rare occasion that I iron jeans, the extra steam burst will lay em flat in no time. The 1750 watts on this unit trump the 1400 or 1500 on the prior Rowenta and even then it seemed to be alot of power/steam. I purchased this with a credit card that will extend the great 1 yr mfg warranty another full year. What else can I say, SOLD!

UPDATE: I tried updating this review last week but it didn't stick for some reason. This iron is almost 2 months into daily use for a family of 3 and its still laying any fabric flat in no time.

I am updating this review to add what I meant to acknowledge the first time. Rowenta's may cost more initially but when you factor in the fact that they operate on convenient tap water versus expensive store bought distilled water, over time, the Rowenta wins out for convenience and dollars spent. While others are chasing distilled water, I walk over to the sink and fill it up. Thank you Rowenta!

UPDATE II (5/30/09)

We have followed the mfg instructions to the letter regarding how to use the self cleaning function of the iron (every 30 days).

I don't know why so many in this forum seem to have problems with this particular model because our unit continues to effectively work like day one.

Friday, October 2, 2009

Rowenta DX 8800

This is by far the best iron on the market. You just can't find an iron this good for double the money. I highly recommend this product.

Thursday, October 1, 2009

Never too old to learn

I bought a Rowenta last year after trying many irons through 48 yrs. and 4 kids. This baby makes ironing downright easy and you couldn't buy it back from me. For the first time, I look forward to ironing and if it needs a replacement, it will absolutely be another Rowenta.

Rowenta IB61005 Precision Ironing Board4
This ironing board is sturdy and the wide ironing surface is superior. The accompanying cover is thick but could be more taut. I'm glad I bought it.

Heavy duty!5
I just received this board. It's larger than it looks. I was surprised at how wide it is. It's about 50% wider than "normal" boards. Almost like you're ironing on a table.

It's super sturdy and the entire unit is made of heavy duty steel so the board is a bit heavy. It's built like a tank so I expect it to last a long time.

sturdy and useful4
I like this ironing board because it sits a little higher which makes ironing somewhat easier. I also like its simple design and resting place for the iron itself.

Rowenta solid performance

I was already an owner of a Rowenta that weathered hard use for over 20 years. Therefore, I am accustomed to a heavy iron, weight being one of the negatives frequently cited on these irons. This thing WORKS. It has plenty of steam vents and a larger water tank. I am very satisfied! BTW, I saw it at Dillard's for $100 this week.

Monday, September 28, 2009

This iron is worth the money!

I have always hated ironing; I'm just not very good at it. With the high costs of our dry cleaning bills, I decided to buy a good iron and try again. My mother recommended this iron and she was right...it works great!! My husband's shirts (with the addition of heavy starch) look like they have been to the cleaners. The iron has paid for itself in two weeks. It produces variable amounts of steam and is heavy enough to press out the toughest wrinkles, such as my husband's heavy khaki pants. Since I was not very good at ironing, it took me a few shirts and pants to get a clean finished look. But practice does make perfect and the money we are saving has been worth extra time.

Sunday, September 27, 2009

Very nice iron!

This is a great iron. It's quite heavy, but I like that. It really gets out the wrinkles. I don't even mind ironing any more!

My third Rowenta iron

This is truly the best iron ever. If you spend money on your clothes, then you should spend money to maintain them. No other iron is heavy enough to press a shirt but this one uses it's weight as an advantage. This iron is by far superior to anything I've used, even professional pressing.

Friday, September 25, 2009

I love my new Rowenta iron!

This is my third Rowenta iron and each one is more improved than the last. What I love about the DX-8800 is the larger water tank and the weight of the iron. I use steam a lot and hardly have to fill up the tank. The heaviness of it makes ironing easier. I also like that it has a strong burst of steam and the vertical steam option. The cost of it is higher than most, but I feel is well worth it. I hope to use it for many years to come. I would strongly recommend this iron to anyone.

Thursday, September 24, 2009

I think this is a fabulous iron..

I have to admit before buying this iron I had the same old clanking cheesy iron I had used for 10 years ...that is when I used it. I usually just rewashed something rather than dragging that awful iron out....

It felt odd buying such an expensive iron (and I paid $10 more than amazon is charging) when I wasnt sure I would use it but I knew there had to be a better way... I have had it for six months and have had no mechanical issues. I see there are reviews with some various issues - I guess every single mechanical item has some individual lemons that come off the line ...it happens. Also unhappy customers are much more likely to voice their opinions that satisfied ones...

First let me say that yes, its heavier than cheaper irons but I think this actually helps 'press' out the wrinkles and pushing it back and forth isnt an issue for me with the weight - and I am not bench pressing it. However, if you need a light iron because you have minimal hand strength this wouldnt be a good choice. It holds a boat-load of water so you aren't filling it all the time. I just LOVE that. You can vary the steam and there is an auto-clean feature using the steam. The iron is also meant to use tap water, not anything special...

I have to say I iron now - and unlike my last iron where I would have to make pass after pass to get out a wrinkle, with this iron usually one pass is enough on regular weight clothes so ironing is actually quicker.

Rowenta is a very good quality name and a long standing company known for great irons... will every single iron come off the assembly line absolute perfection? probably not but I feel sure it is the individual iron and not the whole line because I think this has been a trouble free and great iron.

Very Nice

Before buying this iron, i googled "best steam iron", and this one came up. I read tons of reviews and saw more good than bad. I just went to Target an bought it for $[...] bucks. I only really need it for my dress shirts. My shirts cost a lot of money and i don't like to use starch spray on my them and i heard a really good steam iron is the way to go. So i just ironed 10 shirts from the wash, and maaaaan... this iron is awesome! I had one shirt that's been sitting in my closet for months. The pattern in the fabric makes this shirt very vulnerable to wrinkles after washing. I ran this iron over it, and bam! Wrinkles were no more!

This iron feels super smooth. I'm a guy and think the weight on it is perfect. i read a lot of people say that it was too heavy. I filled it to the max with water and found it to be just fine.

Now the downside. Leaking and spitting!! I just bought it, ironed 10 shirts, and already leaking and spitting. Now i don't know irons at all, so i don't know if that's just supposed to happen or if it's defective. The box says "anti drip", but it also says it only "helps prevent drips on low temp" settings. Also, the instructions says to use tap water or half tap/distilled. I just went ahead and used bottled water (which the instructions also suggest to use).

So if it didn't leak/spit, i'd give it a 5. My old iron was a black and decker 30 dollar piece of [...]. The steam on it didn't even get wrinkles out, if anything, created them. To be honest, i didn't even know steam itself could get wrinkles out. Basically, Rowenta's iron don't play, It's serious!

Overall, I say get. Even if you have to exchange it every 3 months, hell, i'll do it!

Good iron with some problems

A good iron but some controls hard to adjust. The water fill window cover very hard to open & close. Also, the temperature adjustment dial is very hard to adjust due to stiff operation. People with small hands or arthritis will find the controls very hard to change.
The operation of the iron seems to be working well to this point. (Only used a month.)This is a replacement for another Rowenta iron which I owned for 5 years and loved. Unfortunately the cord developed a short at the connection to the handle and I could find no replacement part, so bought this one. Hopefully the connection will last longer. I liked the original Rowenta better than this one due to the controls being easier to change.

Monday, September 21, 2009

great product with touch of german engineering quality

I got a costco version of this product, DX-8600, which is only 1500 watts, but the features are identical. The iron heated up in 30 seconds, the steam burst was powerful, and all the controls were quite self-explanatory. The INOX soleplate is installed with precision, and the water inlet cover is quite durable. I have another Black and Decker D2020, and in comparison the D2020's soleplate edges are crooked, and the water inlet cover is quite brittle, and the D2020's soleplate is smaller than the DX-8600's. Consumer Reports rated the D2020 and D2030 much higher than any Rowenta, but I will stay with this DX-8600 for a while.

Rowena Steam Ifron

I find this iron very easy to use. The multiple steam holes makes ironing easier and faster. I have a small problem with it spitting water. I have tried using 1/2 tap and 1/2 spring water and I have tried adjusting the steam flow, but it still tends to spit. Overall, I am very pleased with this iron.

Saturday, September 19, 2009

Nice iron

I have used Rowenta irons for many years and they have always been quite good. I don't do a LOT of ironing, just pressing minor wrinkles out of shirts and trousers that I picked up from the laundry/dry cleaners. I have sometimes found other irons to lack the steam power to do this very well; this iron, however, has produces plenty of steam, even when held vertically.

This model is somewhat heavier than my last Rowenta iron, which generally I prefer. However, it doesn't glide as effortlessly across the clothes, which I suspect will improve with some use.

I read a number of reviews in which the user atated ironing had become fun. Um, get real... it's ironing, it's never going to be fun. This at least makes it not such a chore.

Friday, September 18, 2009

It's heavy but it works well,

I wanted an iron I could use for sewing, quilting and ironing clothes. I specifically wanted a "shot of steam" feature similar to my 30 year old iron that had died, where you can spray a little bit of steamy water in front of where you are ironing. This iron meets those criteria. It has a sharp point in front, which does make it easier to get in those sewing corners. It has well-distributed steam, and that works well. It uses spring water and I always have that around. The directions are very clear. I like the fact that it shuts off and then turns back on when you wiggle it. That is particularly useful for quilting.

It is HEAVY. Very heavy. It is also tall, which will take some getting used to. I feel like my hand is very far from the cloth. Of course, that is perception, not reality.

Thursday, September 17, 2009

Very *NICE* but WORTH the price? Hmmmmmm

This is my 4th Rowenta Iron (YES I'm clumsy but I *LOVE* Rowenta's). This was by far the most expensive that I've bought but I had a gift certificate to offset the cost. Honestly the only difference between the Professsional iron(s) and the $50-60 Rowenta's models is the WATER TANK and the WEIGHT (this is good for my wrist why?). However, it's nice that I don't have to keep filling up the water tank every two items especially when Rowenta suggests that we add water when the iron is UNHEATED (you've got to kidding!) But still, is it worth the extra money? Honey, I think *NOT* unless you have a gift certificate too. Also, as much I dropped them back in the day .. they keep on tickin'!! I've gotten BETTER over the years (13+) but this one (maybe others too) have the anti-slip on the bottom... so that should help eliminate some TIPPING OVER and any unnecessary accidental skin contact (ouch!). VERY NICE but truthfully why don't they ALL have this anti-slip? These aren't the $9.99 K-*art specials, so Rowenta SHOULD be able to add this to all of their irons. Hmm .. my next comments will be to the Rowenta folks with this EXACT suggestion too! Seriously. Happy Buying and remember .. this is a GOOD PRODUCT!!!!

Customer Reviews

Almost perfect4
I love absolutely everything about this iron except that the handle is a little big for someone with small hands. After ironing for a while, my hand begins to ache. I have to point out that I do LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the hundreds of steam holes and that this iron comes with it's own water container to fill it. I always bothered me that I had to use my own measuring cups and forgot where I put them.

Can ironing really be fun?5
Well, maybe not, but this is a close as I have come to enjoying the task. This iron glides over fabrics, and leaves a lovely smooth path. It heats quickly, and makes fast work of a stack of shirts. The pointed tip fits nicely into cuffs and along buttons.
Plus the pink appeals to my inner girl.

Complete with its own durable nylon bag for travel, the little Latitude is well worth the extra space in your suitcase. --Emily Bedard

Customer Reviews

I finally found a travel iron that actually works!!!5
Over the years I have purchased a number of travel irons, only to be disappointed when they did not do the job. I resigned myself to wearing wrinkled clothes on vacation. But I have to say the Rowenta has made a believer out of me. Unlike most travel irons, this heats just as well as an home iron and it does an excellent job when it is used as a vertical steamer. And the nylon carry case is a plus.

I cannot recommend this product enough. Buy with confidence.

Travel Sharp5
As a veteran hotel jockey, I try to unfold our suitcase to find a travel mess with our clothing. The travel inon from Rowenta has been not only a travel saver, but a business saver. We look as great as (or at least our clothes) possible. The multi-function of the steam is the best we have encountered. An added bonus, was is the free shipping with a purchase over [money] with Amazon.com. A truly winning combination. We could not sing enough praise about this product. It even looks great! The price at Amazon is even the best we have found. A travel jockey must!

Great Travel Iron!5
I travel quite a bit with my fiance and we always had wrinkled clothes after my poor packing job in our suitcase. I decided to get this travel iron to help and I have not been disappointed!

This iron is tiny (weighs I think 1.7 pounds) and works extremely well! It heats up just as well as my at home iron! One of the other great features is the vertical steamer, which works extremely well too. It is very portable, especially since the handle folds to lie flat. It comes in a nice travel pouch as well.

The cost is extremely reasonable too, especially if it shows up in your gold box! With free shipping its a real bargin. I highly recommend this iron, you will not be disappointed!

Much more than I expected5
I purchased this iron to satisfy and replace my desire for the laura star garment system iron that I had seen a couple of months ago; that particular system was extremely awesome however the price tag was extremely high nearing the $1,000 mark. So to help me overcome my desire for such a system I thought I would purchase the Rowenta since I had heard it was a great iron. I purchased the Rowenta DX6900. I was not expecting to be pleased in comparison to the above mentioned system. I was amazed. It did a great job on my clothes. I would recommend this iron. It pressed my clothes effortlessly and I am pleased with my purchase. And I saved a lot of money compared to the other one. I may however purchase the Rowenta Ironing Board as it appears to aid in the desired finished product. D. Smith

Back to Rowenta!5
Almost 10 years ago I had purchased a basic model iron from Rowenta to use in my upholstery and drapery workroom. With the very heavy use and the iron being used daily, it didn't tire out until six years later! Since then I have purchased several irons of various makes, but not one lived up to the needs of my business. So, in January of this year, I up-graded to the Rowenta Power Duo DX 6900. This iron stands far above the rest. I am a true Rowenta fan and will never again buy another brand of iron!

almost excellent....4
The weight, feel, steaming, and ability to glide over fabric all make this easily a 5 star iron.
The biggest problem for me is that the instruction book talks about the light indicating when it is heating versus done heating, and in fact the light goes on and stays on when the iron is ON, whether or not it is at the proper temperature. This is not a bug in my specific iron; a friend has one from an earlier batch in a different color, and it has the same disparity between the book and reality.
Some home sewers complain about the iron's turn-off feature. I don't mind too much. The light DOES blink in the turned-off mode and clicks back to steady light so you know it is responding, and seems to reheat quickly.

Designed for steaming and pressing clothes during travel, this compact iron also comes in handy at home when its vertical-steam feature can be used for hanging garments and drapes. For pressing, the steam iron has a 4-1/2-inch-long polished soleplate that's perfect for creases, pleats, cuffs, and collars. The full-range thermostat permits precise adjustment and ensures the proper temperature for all fabrics. A steam-burst button provides extra power for tough wrinkles. The removable tank is transparent for monitoring the water level, and a dual-voltage dial adjusts the iron to either 120- or 240-volt systems so it works worldwide. What a great and useful product...4

For a long time now I've been looking for this kind of product...as soon as I saw Rowenta Steam N' Press over at Amazon.com I knew I've got to have that one.Although this product is only available for shipping at the U.S. that didn't stop me from buying one. What I did was to let this product shipped to my Aunt's address in L.A. and have her sent it to me here in the Philippines. I've been using this product since last month and so far it's working just fine with my clothes. I could also bring Rowenta Steam N' Press during my travel because it's handy enough. I can just hang my clothes and have it steamed vertically or I can switch it into a flat iron. It's really great! not to mention convenient...It's dual voltage feature makes it flexible and functional wherever I go...I love this product!

Still not sure about performance3
I bought this iron and began comparing it to my old $7 Black & Decker Iron and it fell short in a few areas. It's a little weighty, which could be a good thing for pressing out stubborn wrinkles or bad when having to iron a lot. The cord is noticably about 2 foot shorter and heavier. It seems to get in the way more. Although it says anti-drip and no leaking, when I sit the iron down between garment sections it spits water from the soleplate and leaks water back out of the tank onto my hand. The temperature light tends to go on and off often, as though it can't keep warm. Still undecided whether I got a dud.

Customer Reviews

Good iron at a premium price.3

I've recently started ironing everything I wear. This made me yearn to ease the job with high end equipment. I bought this steam generator after reading the "professional quality for the home" reviews along with a Rowenta expert ironing board.
After ~10 tanks (which go much faster than I expected) of tap water I can say that this is a VERY good iron and will get your clothes looking good...but not as if they were done at the cleaners. Compared to my girlfriends extreme budget iron I can see a difference...but compared to my Mother's Rowenta iron(non-steam generator type)..I can tell little difference.
I took one star for the high cost and another due to the LONG waiting periods for the "steam generator" to generate steam, about ~10+ minutes when filled completely.
For your average user, save some $ and get a typical iron as it is much more convenient as well.

The beauty of a Rowenta !5
Ever since I had my first Rowenta, I disregarded all those others. There must be something special and it must be the ability to make the pain of ironing easier! Rowentas come in many styles nowadays. I especially like the Burst of Steam button which clearly fixes some creases, especially those accidently made while ironing. The power press model has the Pro Vertical Steam button with a powerful burst for those upright garments. This helps for those outfits that don't need ironing, just getting the kinks out.

Although this boasts a self-clean system, I can only hope it does well, as I have not noticed it yet, but it is designed to flush loose the mineral deposits.

As for the Variable Steam adjustment, there isn't much of a difference in the lower vs. higher shot of steam, buts it's good to know the stream is adequate all around.

I like the large water Tank (8oz) and a clear view it allows. And of course it boasts the Anti-Drip system which prevents spitting and leaking when the thermostat is on a lower setting. This is very important, so you don't have drops of water spewing out unintentionally.

The Anti-Calc System is designed as an integrated cartridge for extended life of the iron. The unit is stainless steel.

So, yes there are good features, and to me, the Rowentas are the best. Iron away!....Rizzo

Awesome! Definitely the best iron around!5
If you're looking for a heavy grade professional iron that will glide over your clothes knocking out all your wrinkles, this is the iron. This iron has reduced my ironing time by at least 30-40%. The easy gliding ability of this iron topped with it's ability to smooth out those wrinkles in usually one pass without constant pressure or repeated passes over the same area make this a true pleasure to use. The only one area of concern that seems to bother others but didn't concern me is the power cord is fairly heavy grade, making is different from probably your current iron, however it hasn't presented any obstacles for me.

Hefty iron, sturdy power cord5
I had previously owned a Rowenta P2 commercial iron, which appeared to be an early incarnation of the 890DM. There were reports of the power cord going bad due to the design, and I think that's how my P2 died. The iron would suddenly stop heating, sometime a whack on the bottom would bring it back, but it was very unpredicatable. An internal fraying of the power cord connector would explain this behavior: no current draw to the heating elements.

With the 890DM Rowenta appeared to have fixed this, evident by the thicker power cord that so many people complained about. It is a hefty cord, about 9-10mm in diameter, more like a computer power cable than your typical household appliance power cord. It still connects at the base of the handle through a flexible plastic tubing that keeps the cord straight up and away from the handle. I have not found this cable to be a nuisance in ironing, and if this design change prevents an early Rowenta death, I'm all for it.

Everything else is as excellent as ever, Rowenta owners can atest to this. The DM890 weighs nearly 5 lbs., making it efforless to glide and not have to press down. Inox steel prevents bottom stickage, the handle steam control buttons are well-designed. It heats up fast and can get really really hot at 1750W. In the $90 - $100 price range this is one of the most expensive irons you can buy. The only thing I had before my P2 was a small Black & Decker, so I don't have extensive experience to compare. I can say that once I've owned a Rowenta, that's it, I'll never go back to buying anything else, even if my old P2 did die early.

This is a Great Iron5
The steam produced by this iron doesn't leave anything to be desired. I really like the features and the quality of this appliancve. The steam feature is excellent for all fabrics and it goes fast where you have to easily refill it for any large amount of ironing at one time. A really "Professional" Professional Iron. You will not be sorry if you purchased one.

Customer Reviews

Good horizontal iron, but not vertical. 3
The good: Lightweight, good for travel. The steam output when ironing horizontally is quite good and does a good job in ironing.
The bad: The water tank tends to leak. This is especially if you stand it upright while, e.g. you are re-arranging your clothes on the ironing board. Also, the vertical steam is NOT at all effective for vertical ironing. Additionally, due to small size, one full-load of water can last for at most two shirts before requiring refill.

Great travelling iron4
I bought this iron six years ago when I was a frosh in college. At the time it was the price that sold me, but today it is the compact size. It's a great iron for travel - far better then anything at a hotel.

Great item!5
I bought this item for my Mom who is an excellant quilter. She saw someone in her class with this iron and they loved it. So, I got it for her for her 80th birthday. She loves it. Very convenient and very good iron.

Customer Reviews

Great!... when it works3
This iron was very powerful and quick to heat up and I had no trouble filling with water and I liked the "visible" window to see how much water was left.
I attribute many irons that leak to allowing them to run empty and then refilling while at full temperature.. the metals inside bend and go crazy with sudden cold water against them.

I could never figure out how to shut the thing off aside from letting the auto shutoff feature to do the job without having to turn the ring on top.... but the auto shutoff worked fine.

My problem was that after 4 months and working perfectly, it just stopped heating. The little red light could come on, but the lower amber light that shows when its heating would never come on again.

Its ashamed to put so much energy into a product to have a little switch kill the whole thing.
I"m not sure why this is such a problem among Rowenta Irons.

I search the internet and thought I was buying the best of the best... apparently not.

A chain is only as good as the weakest link... the electronic switches are the weakest link on these irons.

I have no complaints about the rest of the iron.

Owning this was a bit like going to nice restaurant and everything being perfect, except the fly in your soup.

My point is, I think Rowenta either needs to step up to the plate and finish their well made irons with comparable electronics that don't go bad so often or just make a cheap iron and charge less at the expense of their good name which they are killing anyway.

This inconsistency in workmanship amongst top of the line iron companies seems to be fairly common based on the reviews I'm reading. I'm starting to think a cheap iron is as good as an expensive one!

I need an iron "tommorrow" not in several weeks after some service center fixes it... .I went out and bought a 27.00 Black and Decker that did the trick.

I guess I'll have the Rowenta as a backup when I finally get it back from the service center. "After I pay shipping"

slightly disappointing3
I bought this iron after reading excellent reviews on other websites and after friends raved about Rowenta Irons. I made sure I got a Rowenta made in Germany rather than one made in China, since the ones made in China seem to have a lot of problems.

The first disappointing thing about this model is I cannot seem to get a lot of steam out of it when pressing the burst of stem button, also the sliding piece which turns on the amount of steam or self-cleaning option is very flimsy cheap plastic and it's not very clear what setting you are on after sliding it.

It also is a pain in the neck to fill with water, you have to lay it flat (instead of upright like many irons) and pour the tiniest amount of water in the hole very slowly or it will overflow all over the place. I can't seem to fill it all the way up, even after to standing it up to settle the water. This is very time consuming and messy.

Other than that, it is attractive and light weight. I wouldn't say it irons any better than $30 dollar irons I have previously owned.

My T-fal diffusion iron with the easy glide surface, which I loved, died after 5 years. As soon as T-Fal comes out with next model of that iron,(later this month, I believe) I will be buying one. And my Rowenta will sit in the closet.

Ironing board Cover5
This cover is excellent, but note that it best fits the ironing board that it was made for and that board is much wider than a regular priced ironing board. Also, if you're buying one to go with the Roweta Ironing Bord, the board purchased new, comes with the same cover already installed.

Rowenta - The Best!5
Rowenta products seem to be the best one can get in laundry care. We own a Professional iron and board; there is no better board -- stable and the cover (which is what is being reviewed) is the best. Well made and a perfect fit, what more can one ask for, except perhaps for a lower price?

My wife is delighted!5
This is a quality product and well worth the price. It fits perfectly (ignore the dimensions given under Product Details.) It DOES fit the Rowenta IB-6200 Ironing Board!

The cover attaches easily and provides a smooth ironing surface. This is a class product.
